On September 3 a group of regime thugs attacked the Qoba mosque of reformist Grand Ayatollah Dastgheyb in Shiraz. It has been the second attack on this mosque since 31 December 2009, leaving behind many of the Ayatollah’s followers injured. More than 40 of them were arrested subsequently – not the assailants!

After Friday’s Qods Day rally, a group of organized thugs who were provoked by the remarks made by the representative of the supreme leader in the Revolutionary Guards of Fars province, and with the guidance of former hardliner governor of the city of Shiraz, using governmental resources entered the Qoba mosque (where the pro-reform Grand Ayatollah Dastgheyb gives his sermons). Meanwhile 41 members of these organized thugs have been identified and accused, including Hojatoleslam Alizadeh, the Supreme Leader’s representative in Fars province.

To date only Hojatoleslam Voldan, head of the Policy-Making Office for Friday Preachers in Fars Province, has been arrested.

Update 25 September: Hojatoleslam Voldan was released on bail today, while more than 40 followers of Ayatollah Dastgheyb remain in prison.

The attacks on the Qoba mosque in Shiraz and subsequent arrests of Ayatollah Dastgheyb’s followers are another example of state-run terror against oppositional forces, directed by representatives of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.
